REAL MCCOYS, THE (1958, 1960) 2 scripts for “Grampa’s War” and “First Date”

Sold

This was the first of what would become a slew of rural comedies, and all the then-existing networks initially turned it down. It eventually debuted on CBS in 1957 and became a huge success, which in turn led to other shows like BEVERLY HILLBILLIES and PETTICOAT JUNCTION, all of them with country folk as the protagonists. In the case of this show, Walter Brennan starred as Grandpa Amos McCoy, the patriarch of a West Virginia family who move to the San Fernando Valley in suburban Los Angeles.

“Grampa’s War” 12/31/58 Mimeo, brad-bound, self-wrappers, 40 pp., with some pages revisions on blue paper dated 1/7/59. Front page has come loose from brads. This script belonged to child actor Ronnie Sorenson, who played a small part, and there are a few notations in pencil in his hand.

[sold with]:

“First Date” 2/24/60 Mimeo, brad-bound, self-wrappers, 46 pp., with various pages of revisions on blue paper dated 2/29/60, and maybe 20 pp. of alternative scenes, along with an extra maybe 40 pp. of yet additional variants, these also mimeo and brad-bound. There are some stains to the front page of the main text, and some creases and signs of handling, overall both scripts are NEAR VERY GOOD.
