Claudia Cardinale had the finest role of her career as lead star character Angelica Sedara in this epic saga of the dying aristocracy of 1860s Sicily. The climactic scene was a 40 minute ball sequence. Director Visconti was a stickler for period detail and he went to great pains in the recreation of her period role, evident here in her hair styling and jewelry. Rare format oversize portrait.
