Vintage original 10 x 8″ (25 x 20 cm.) black-and-white double weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, USA. Ethel Merman, Ray Middleton, William O’Neil, Lea Penman, dir: Joshua Logan; Shubert Organization.

The original great Irving Berlin Broadway musical. The show includes some of the most famous songs ever written for a musical. Ethel Merman created her legendary role of Annie Oakley, the celebrated sharp shooter and star of Buffalo Bill’s traveling show.

Ethel appears here as Annie attends a function in Europe sporting her medals on her bodice. The song “Sun in the Morning and the Moon at Night” is from this scene. The show played for 1147 performances at the Imperial Theatre between May 16, 1946 and Feb. 12, 1949.

The still is ink stamped on the verso, “Photograph by Vandamm Studio, 130 West 57th St., New York, N.Y.” There is a soil spot at the center of Ethel’s right “leg of mutton” sleeve. A few light spots on blank white margin and slight crease to bottom right corner. ABOUT FINE.
