(FITZGERALD, F. SCOTT, SOURCE) THE GREAT GATSBY (1926)

Sold

Set of 11 vintage original 8 x 10” (20 x 25 cm.) photos, USA. These photos are all double weight and printed on mat (or “flat”) finish paper. Warner Baxter, Dolores Costello, Neil Hamilton, dir: Herbert Brenon; Paramount. Some photos have light trim, most likely for publication, with some paper left in margin, and overall condition is NEAR FINE.

A fascinating archive of photos from a tragically lost film. The only remaining trace is a one-minute trailer, which only provides a small number of stills. It is simply not possible to evaluate the artistic value of this lost movie, but it is worth noting that the studio provided one of their finest directors (Brenon, who had a great reputation as a pictorialist, but the bulk of whose other films are also lost) and a top-notch cast for this, the first of what was to be a number of screen adaptations of Fitzgerald’s novel.
