MARY ASTOR (1929) Portrait

$300.00

[Los Angeles: Fox Pictures, 1929]. Vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo. Chips at all four edges. Small border tear at mid right-side margin and at mid bottom white margin. Very good.

This unusual portrait of Mary Astor is most likely for her 1929 Fox film THE WOMAN FROM HELL, in which she played a carnival performer known as the “devil” who sells kisses. When things go awry, she is rescued and marries her hero. Astor appears to be quite tawdry in this portrait ,which has her name stamp on the verso as well as the Fox Film Argentina stamp.
