PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ (1930)

Sold

Vintage original 14 x 22″ (35 x 56 cm.) window card poster, USA. Harry Richman, Joan Bennett, James Gleason, Aileen Pringle, Lilyan Tashman, dir: Edward Sloman; United Artists. Wonderful jazz age graphics highlight this lively poster for the early musical featuring the songs of Irving Berlin. It was the age old story of a Vaudeville performer who becomes a big success, forgetting the “little people” he knew on his way up. The film also featured songs which star Harry Richman (“The idol of Broadway” as we learn here) wrote. Popular singer as well, Richman would appear in a few films and contribute to the song scores of others. Though the film is extant, the two-strip Technicolor sequences only remain in black-and-white. Paper-backed, exceptionally conserved to address minor internal creasing, with touch-ups to some lettering, displays near to mint, NEAR FINE.
