THERE’S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS (1954) Marilyn Monroe

Sold

Vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, USA. Ethel Merman, Marilyn Monroe, Donald O’Connor, Mitzi Gaynor, Dan Daily, Johnny Ray, dir: Walter Lang; Twentieth Century Fox. The Irving Berlin song book saga was a true vehicle for Ethel Merman. Monroe was fast becoming a star and she was promised the lead in THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH if she would participate in this film to boost its box office. The role was written in for her and she was assigned several songs originally intended for Merman, including “Heatwave”. In her nightclub number “After You Get What You Want, You Don’t Want It”, she vows to win over the producers in attendance. It is her moves in this Travilla-designed gown which wins them over more than her voice. The top left corner of this photo is creased. VERY GOOD-FINE.
