GREED (1924) Flyer / herald

Vintage original 13 x 6″ (33 x 15 cm.) flyer / herald, USA. Gibson Gowland, Zasu Pitts, Jean Hesholt, dir: Erich Von Stroheim; MGM. This large flyer was used as part of the promotional campaign for Stroheim’s masterpiece of silent cinema, Greed, with its wanted poster design offering $1,000.00 for the arrest of John McTeague for murder.

Very little original paper has survived from this landmark film. As to posters, all that has ever surfaced is a disappointing window card (which does not show any of the characters) and this remarkable wanted poster. I have never handled another, and am certain that few of them exist. Two small inner tears, one at the bottom of the N of “WANTED,” and one at the top pf the R of “REWARD.” No paper loss. Overall NEAR FINE.
