PALM BEACH STORY, THE (1942)

Sold

Vintage original 11 x 14″ (28 x 35 cm.) lobby card, USA. Claudette Colbert, Joel McCrea, Mary Astor, Rudy Vallee, Sig Arno, dir: Preston Sturges; Paramount. Preston Sturges’ best — and Preston Sturges at his best — as both writer and director. The four main players at their screwball comedy best are presented in a light hearted layout, including Colbert and McCrea in their dual roles in this trick shot.
The story concerns a married couple who are having money problems. She (Colbert) decides to go to Palm Beach for a divorce so as she will no longer be a burden to him (McCrea). While there, she warms her way into moneyed society, the husband follows her, and all kinds of romantic complications take place. When Sturges wrote this script, it was to be called IS MARRIAGE NECESSARY?, but the Production Code office would not hear of it! So, as in this finale scene, marriage was necessary. One pin hole at each of the four corners. ABOUT FINE.
