Robert Siodmak directed, from a screenplay by Daniel Fuchs, this extremely dark tale of betrayal on top of betrayal, with memorable performances by Burt Lancaster, Yvonne DeCarlo and an unusually menacing Dan Duryea.

The film is an unusually precise time capsule of post-WWII Los Angeles and Southern California, with many location shots of buildings and locales long since gone.
