Philippine “Pina” Bausch (1940-2009) was a German dancer and choreographer who was a significant contributor to a neo-expressionist dance tradition now known as Tanztheater, bringing together dance and everyday movement with theatre, speech, music and clever use of props and sets. Her best-known dance-theatre works include the melancholic Cafe Muller (1978) in which dancers stumble around the stage crashing into tables and chairs to arias by Henry Purcell. (Wikipedia)

From a set of the choreographer’s work at BAM Opera House from June 27-July 10, 1988, and are official BAM photos. Works presented are from Carnations and Viktor.
