Filmed in Argentina and directed by Pierre Chenal, with a screenplay co-written by Richard Wright and Chenal. When actor Canada Lee, who was slated to take the lead role of Bigger Thomas, became unavailable, Wright stepped in to play the role himself. This was Wright’s only appearance as a film actor.
