John H. Johnson is widely regarded as the most influential Black publisher in American history. In 1942 he founded the Johnson Publishing Company, which created Ebony (1945) and Jet (1951) magazines. Dealing with many subjects which lead to the civil rights movement, Johnson formed friendships with each of the American presidents during his time as publisher and also formed a book publishing division.

Photos include Johnson with the book The Kennedy Years and the Negro, another with attorney general Robert Kennedy.
