NATACHA RAMBOVA [ca. 1924] Early Art Deco portrait

$350.00

Natacha Rambova. 1924. Photo. Los Angeles: Np, [ca. 1924]. Vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm) black-and-white glossy silver gelatin photo. Just about fine.

Art and costume designer Natacha Rambova is shown modeling her stylish early Art Deco dress and headwear poses with a case of jewelry artifacts, likely inspired by the recent discovery of Tutankhamun’s grave, which became the rage of the Art Deco movement.

Designing sets, costumes and occasionally acting in films, Rambova was one of the female powerhouses of the 1920s. Married to Rudolph Valentino from 1923-1925, she designed several of his epic films. She later pursued an interest in Egyptology and became a published author on the subject.
