Gypsy Rose Lee (1911-1970) was an American burlesque entertainer, stripper, actress, author, playwright and vedette, famous for her striptease act. Her 1957 memoir, Gypsy: A Memoir, was adapted into the 1959 stage musical Gypsy. Sister June Havoc became a popular theatre and film star, she too writing about experiences with Mother Rose. Gypsy was married three times, and had son Erik with director Otto Preminger. Writing several mystery novels and her memoir kept Gypsy solvent as she aged, passing in 1970 at age 59. (Wikipedia)
