WHISPERING FRIENDS (1928) / HAP HADLEY BROADWAY POSTER ART

$300.00

Vintage original 13; x 18″ (34 x 47 cm.) window card poster, USA. George M. Cohan was the author/librettist, producer and director of this comedy play which opened 20 Feb., 1928, at New York’s Hudson Theatre and featured William Harrigan and Chester Morris (it ran for 112 performances). Impresario of the Broadway musical, Cohan also wrote several comedy plays during his prolific career. Just prior to this show he wrote his autobiography, Twenty Years on Broadway and the Years It Took To Get There.

Of great interest here is the lively Roaring Twenties-themed art by the popular Hap Hadley, an American artist who lived from 1895 to 1976, with the 1920s being his most prolific period. He was well-known for his pen-and-ink drawings and caricatures of popular themes and subjects of the time, contributing to magazines and poster art for the circus, motion pictures and stage.

Trimmed by 3″ (9 cm.) at the blank top, just slightly touching the printed image, slight signs of handling. NEAR VERY GOOD.
