MAE WEST STRIKES A PROVOCATIVE POSE IN GOIN’TO TOWN (1935)

Sold

Vintage original 11 x 14” (28 x 35 cm.) black and white single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, USA. Mae West, Paul Cavanagh, Gilbert Emery, dir: Alexander Hall; Paramount. Mae West poses in her provocative “Opera” costume. She portrayed dance hall queen Cleo Borden who inherits her fiancé’s wealth, becomes a lady and impresses several suitors as she travels the globe. Of Course West wrote the screenplay. Though Travis Banton designed this rather outrageous costume, which pushed the boundaries of the newly installed production code, it has Mae West’s input and humor written all over it. In this oversized still which was used in theatre lobbies, she rehearses with Sr. Vitola (Luis Alberni). Crease at bottom left corner, creasing and three small border tears along right blank white margin. Spotting in the blank white margins. VERY GOOD.
