JOAN CRAWFORD (1928) in lounge wear

Sold

Vintage original 10 x 8” (25 x 20 cm.) black and white single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, USA. Joan Crawford, one of MGM’s first leading ladies became a star before the silent era was over. She portrayed the ultimate jazz baby in OUR DANCING DAUGHTERS in 1928, having learned the craft of film acting starting in 1925. From day one she played the star, and a big part of that job was posing endlessly for publicity photos, particularly those modeling every conceivable type of garment. This ensemble in still MGM-5391 with the original blurb typed on the verso describes this ensemble as acceptable trouser wear for ladies as they are satin pajamas, great as a lounging robe and appropriate only in the boudoir. Soon women would wear trousers in public, but it was thought to be a bit of a scandal. Minor wear at top margin. Creasing to right of Crawford’s head. ABOUT FINE.
