(Original vintage screenplay for the 1980 film, working copy belonging to assistant director William Eustace) Los Angeles, CA: Filmways Pictures, 1979. Revised script for the 1980 film. Copy belonging to second assistant director William Eustace, with his name in blue holograph ink on the title page, and his copious notations throughout, almost studious in nature. Eustace’s notations detail scenes to be omitted, extras to be used, props on the set, even which scenes included stunt doubles. Working scripts used by people on- and off-scene are varied, particularly regarding notations with attention to detail, and this is an example how different those scripts can be.

A defining De Palma film, suspenseful in the vein of Alfred Hitchcock and intense sexuality. The film begins with a very famous update on the “Hitchcock shower scene,” with Angie Dickinson very plausibly filling Janet Leigh’s role. The sixth of nine highly distinctive films De Palma made between 1973 and 1984.

Dark green leatherette wrappers with the title and a credit for De Palma embossed on the front wrapper. Title page present, dated 10/10/79, noted as REVISED, with credits for screenwriter-director De Palma. 112 leaves, mechanically reproduced, with pink revision pages throughout, dated 10/10/79.

Collation: Note: heavy notations in blue holograph ink, often on the verso as well.
