ALLA NAZIMOVA | SALOMÉ (1922) Lobby card

Sold

[Los Angeles: Nazimova Productions, 1922]. Vintage original 11 x 14″ (28 x 36 cm.) lobby card. The card has various minor signs of handling on the front (a small closed tear in blank middle right, some soft creases, one small corner chip, and paper lifts and strips of paper tape on the back. None of this is particularly obtrusive, and this entirely unrestored lobby card presents very nicely. Very good.

Alla Nazimova reclines on her stomach in this provocative image from the 1922 film Salomé, with Aubrey Beardsely-inspired art in the border. This film is by legend the first one to have been made with an all-gay cast, which a century later is impossible to prove or disprove–but it is very clearly filled with all kinds of LGBTQ imagery.
