A dramatic image of Brigitte Helm as Maria with the many children of the underworld (whose inhabitants support the wealthy utopia of Metropolis). Near the end of the film the workers follow a false Maria, abandoning their children in the process; the real Maria sets out to rescue them. The original British release was in Sep. 1927.
