$150.00

[Los Angeles]: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, [1937]. Vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white glossy silver gelatin photo. There are several pinholes at each of the four corners. Chips at three of the four corners with tape remnants on the back. Shows overall usage, very good.

Irving Thalberg, heading up the prestigious production output at MGM, brought Groucho, Chico and Harpo Marx to the studio in 1935 after several hugely successful years at Paramount. In the films they made since the adoption of the stringent Production Code, MGM set the first film in the world of opera, the second at the racetrack. The films were huge successes and good films. After Thalberg’s death in 1937, the three Marx Brothers were not presented with such fine material and their films suffered. Fortunately, their brand of physical and verbal comedy was well-served in this film.

Photo is coded 957-1.
