Josephine Baker arrived in Paris in 1925 at the age of 19. She quickly became a star, initially for her work as a dancer. In 1927, she appeared in the review UN VENT DE FOLIE, where her skimpy costume — basically just a short skirt of artificial bananas and a beaded necklace — created a sensation.
