JOSEPHINE BAKER (1954)
Sold
[New York]: International News Photos, 1954. Vintage original 10 x 8″ (25 x 20 cm.) black-and-white photo, USA. JUST ABOUT FINE, with extensive text affixed. A photo of Josephine Baker at New York’s then-Idlewild Airport where, according to the text, she had been twice detained because of her outspoken statements about racism in the U.S. She had in 1951 famously raised a ruckus at Manhattan’s ritzy 21 Club when they refused to serve her because of her race.
