An unusually pensive portrait of Katharine Hepburn in her Academy Award-nominated role which won favor with Depression-era audiences. Directed by George Stevens, Hepburn portrayed a vulnerable character attempting to improve her social status in her small Indianapolis town. Walter Plunkett designed her simple character-driven wardrobe, and here she wears a velvet wrap.
