KATHARINE HEPBURN | ALICE ADAMS (1935) Portrait by Ernest Bachrach – 1

[Los Angeles]: RKO Studios, [1935]. Vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white glossy silver gelatin photo. Stamped on verso in ink with Ernest Bachrach photographer stamp as well as attached printed paper blurb. Photo is a bit wavy, near fine.

An unusually pensive portrait of Katharine Hepburn in her Academy Award-nominated role which won favor with Depression-era audiences. Directed by George Stevens, Hepburn portrayed a vulnerable character attempting to improve her social status in her small Indianapolis town. Walter Plunkett designed her simple character-driven wardrobe, and here she wears a velvet wrap.

Photo is coded NY Q-317.
