LENA HORNE | TILL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY (1946) Publicity portrait

$300.00

[Los Angeles: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1946]. Vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white glossy silver gelatin photo. Near fine.

This lovely formal portrait was used for publicity art to promote Lena Horne’s appearance with an all-star MGM musical cast. The story of songwriter Jerome Kern, the film gave cause for dozens of his songs to be performed in opulent and — in some cases — true to their stage origins presentations. Though she was denied the role in the 1951 MGM version, for this film Horne was allowed to play Julie in the Show Boat sequence.

Photo is coded 1369-153.
