MARIA CALLAS at LA SCALA (1953) Oversize photo

Vintage original 9 ½ x 7” (24 x 18 cm.) borderless photo, Italy.

Callas in her dressing room at La Scala as she prepares to go on stage in one of her signature roles—Cherubini’s MEDEA, in a famous performance conducted by none other than Leonard Bernstein. This photo bears on verso the stamp of Erio Piccagliani, at the time the official photographer for La Scala. There is also a notation in ink on bottom of verso “Medea Callas ‘Medea,’” which does not show through. JUST ABOUT FINE.
