Max Ophüls directed this tense tale about a young woman (Barbara Bel Geddes) whose dream in life is to marry a rich man. When he (Robert Ryan) turns out to be insane, she realizes that wealth is not everything. She is trapped. The independent film made by Enterprise Studios was released by MGM and is James Mason’s American film debut.
