MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS | VINCENTE MINNELLI AND THE HALLOWEEN SEQUENCE (1944) BTS photo

[Los Angeles: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1944]. Vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white glossy silver gelatin print photo. The left edge is well worn and there is a paperclip impression which goes into the black background. There is some waviness and wear, very good.

Director Vincente Minnelli gives detailed instructions to Joan Carroll and Margaret O’Brien as to how they are to reveal themselves from their masks in this classic film musical‘s haunting Halloween sequence. This tableau in the film proved to be one of the most memorable and captured a child’s true fascination and terror of the antics of All Hallows’ Eve. Executives wanted it left on the cutting room floor, but Minnelli and producer Arthur Freed insisted that it be retained.

The original typed blurb is present on the verso as is the ink stamp for  still number 1317×47. The photo has been well utilized for publishing purposes.
