[Los Angeles: MGM, 1940]. Vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) color-tinted glossy silver gelatin photo, just about fine.
Color-tinted images for the top films of the classic Hollywood era are rare and desirable. Here we have the three major stars of this wonderful Phillip Barry creation directed by George Cukor.
The role of Tracy Lord was written for Katharine Hepburn — it was her play. She bought the rights and it became her movie, sparking an entire new lease on her film career under the banner of MGM for the next 10+ years. She was nominated for an Academy Award but co-star Jimmy Stewart won the top honor (more likely as consolation for not winning for the 1939 Mr. Smith Goes to Washington).
