SOMEWHERE IN THE NIGHT (1946) Archive of 12 photos
[Hollywood]: 20th Century Fox, [1946]. Archive of twelve (12) vintage original photos: four (4) 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) photos and eight (8) borderless 7 ¼ x 9 1/8″ (19 x 23 cm.) photos. Borderless photos are uncoded and have studio text affixed. Of the remaining photos, one is date-stamped on the back, one has studio text on back, and two have Fox stamps, also on back. Just about fine.
Silver, Ward, Ursini, Porfirio, p. 273: “Might well be a quintessential film noir… because it has a protagonist who meets so many noir criteria: an amnesiac, a war-wounded veteran and a private eye all rolled up into one character.”
Joseph Mankiewicz directed John Hodiak, Nancy Guild, Richard Conte, Lloyd Nolan, Sheldon Leonard, Charles Arnt, Whit Bissell and Fritz Kortner, a veteran of German expressionist film.
This set contains a haunting portrait of Kortner. Code numbers: 691/18, 38, 59, 140.
