FARGO (1996) Spanish poster
Vintage original 35.5 x 26.25” (90 x 66.5 cm.) one sheet poster, Spain. Frances McDormand, William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi, dir: Joel and Ethan Coen; Polygram. Unfolded, with minor creasing, near fine.
FARGO is one of the eclectic Coen Brothers’ true landmark films, a kind of existentialist black comedy crossed with a film noir and a detective film, in which McDormand plays the role of the unflappable lady detective who persists and eventually gets to the bottom of the murky events that happen, which involve a kidnapping and multiple murders. It was, in turn, the source for a remarkable TV series on the FX network.
The normal American one sheet is in the design of an old-style tapestry. It is a nice piece of art, but it neither conveys the nature of the film nor portrays its characters. This scarce Spanish poster (the only one I have to date encountered) has really nice images of the film’s three principals.
