By the time of this event, Sylvester’s career — both on stage and as a recording artist — was in full swing.

The River Club was a long-lived gay disco in New York’s West Village.  It opened in 1975 under the name “12 West”.  It underwent a name change to River Club in 1981, and survived until 1984.
