Imogen Cunningham (1883-1976) was an American photographer known for her botanical photography, nudes and industrial landscapes. Cunningham was a member of the California-based Group f/64, known for its dedication to the sharp-focus rendition of simple subjects. Cunningham has been called the “grandmother of photography” for her seminal role in popularizing the medium in its early years and for successfully moving the practice into the realm of fine art. In 1973, Cunningham had a major retrospective exhibition entitled Imogene! Photographs, 1910-1973 at the Elvehjem Art Center (now Chazen Museum of Art) in Madison, Wisconsin. This exhibition showcased her work spanning 1910 to 1973. (Wikipedia)

The two candid portraits depict Cunningham in 1971 and are by Lee Witkin, one marked on verso and one stamped on verso “Exhibition April 11-May 13, 1973”.
