LADY EVE, THE (1941) Set of 7 photos
[Los Angeles]: Paramount Pictures, 1941. Set of seven (7) vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white photos, overall near fine.
Classic comedy written and directed by Preston Sturges about high class card sharks aboard a luxury cruise who target a socially inept brewery heir, one of them falling for him. The card sharks were played by Charles Coburn, and as the Lady Eve, Barbara Stanwyck, proving her great flair for comedy. Henry Fonda received her romantic interest. It was Fonda’s first comedy role. He and Stanwyck participated in production by staying on set all day, often re-writing their lines with Sturges. Monckton Hoffe’s original story received an Academy Award nomination.
The following black-and-white photos are included:
– Image coded 1283-107: Barbara Stanwyck smiles as she “tempts” Henry Fonda having taken a bite of an apple. Full credits at bottom white margin. Full typed blurb on the verso as well as ink stamp of Movie Scenes and Ref. Dept. ink stamp dated Aug. 1, 1941. Minor creases to right bottom corner.

– Image coded 1283-86: Barbara Stanwyck joyfully embraces Henry Fonda in a moment which captures the fun atmosphere of the film. Full copyright and credits information at the bottom of the black-and-white photo. Full typed publicity blurb on the verso. Ref. Dept. ink stamp of N. E. A. dated 2/25/41 on the verso as well. It was used for a Spanish-language publication and this particular image may have been for foreign use as the code prefix “1882” is a different series than those stills released for American use. Photo shows signs of use including soiling to the white margins and creases at bottom right corner.
– Image coded 1882-141: This provocative image of Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda was used as the main image of the one sheet poster for the film. The copyright and credit information is printed on the bottom white margin. Crease at bottom left corner.
– Image coded 1283-93. Another image of Stanwyck and Fonda with the apple (from which a bite has been taken). Small chp at lower right blank margin, modest creasing.
