Set of twenty-five vintage original mostly 8 x 10″ (25 x 20 cm) black-and-white photos, a few with markings for publication, overall very good or better.

American playwright, prose writer, memoirist and screenwriter Lillian Hellman (1905-1984) is known for her success on Broadway as well as her communist views and political activism.

Includes fourteen formal portraits from 1936-1962, many being from the early-1940s. Some are in association with her plays on Broadway or for the films based on her works. Five candid portraits dated between 1937-1946 show her traveling and at home, some in association with The Children”s Hour and her return from Russia. Others depict producer Hal Wallis on the set of The Searching Wind and working with Emlyn Williams on her play Montserrat in 1949. Two show Arthur Penn, Irene Worth, Jason Robards, Jr. and Maureen Stapleton working on Toys in the Attic at the Hudson Theatre in 1960 and two show Hellman at a production of My Mother, My Father and Me with Gower Champion, Ruth Gordon, Walter Matthau and Lili Darvas in 1963.
