LOUISE BROOKS, G.W. PABST (1929) On-location candid photo

$2,000.00

[Berlin: 1929]. Vintage original German 3 x 4″ (8 x 10 cm.) black-and-white double weight photo. Just about fine.

From Louise Brooks’ personal archive, with her notes in cursive on verso (as was typical for photos from her archive, where she always indicated herself in the third person), and presumably obtained by her from director G.W. Pabst in 1965, two years before his death (the autograph “W. Pabst 1965” appears to be in his hand as well).

This is a location candid while Brooks and Pabst were working on DIARY OF A LOST GIRL [TAGEBUCH EINER VERLORENEN], shot in Swinemünde (German name for the Polish seaside resort of Świnoujście). This is the only photo which I have ever found of Brooks with her mentor-director.
