Anna May Wong faced myriad difficulties in sustaining a film career in the face of almost universal racism, along with inevitable racial stereotyping in the roles she was allowed to play. As a result, it is rare to find Hollywood films in which she was billed as the star. In this film, directed by Robert Florey, she had the interesting role of a Chinese-American woman who sets about exposing an illegal ring which smuggles immigrants into the US and exploits them.
