Master of ragtime music Scott Joplin wrote this opera in 1911, a celebration of African American life and culture set on an Arkansas plantation, in a variety of musical styles. It never got a full performance in his lifetime. In the 1970s the opera began to be rediscovered.

This poster is for a Washington, D.C., tryout of a Houston Grand Opera production, prior to a Broadway run.
