Vintage original 14 x 22″ (35 x 55 cm.) window card poster, USA. Betty Compson, John Harron, Jack Oakie, Ned Sparks, Gus Arnheim and Cocoanut Grove Ambassador Band, Doris Eaton, dir: Wesley Reuggles; RKO. A bit of a fanciful tale, part-SNOW WHITE, part-what would become FOUR JACKS AND A JILL. A vagrant immigrant girl is brought in by four musicians. She cooks and cleans for them and, when they are fired, she helps them get a job in a jazz club associated with her mythical country. A prince comes in, kisses her, and that is used to publicize the night club. She and the prince fall in love. This musical had songs by Oscar Levant and Sidney Clare and has the distinction of being the very first official release of the newly-formed RKO Radio Pictures. Besides a short, it is also the only time the popular Gus Arnheim’s Band of the Cocoanut Grove appeared in a film. It is the jazz age graphics, though, that really sells this early talkie musical. There are some repairs of a long tear, mended on back with clear tape, NEAR FINE.
