Judy Garland & Gay Pride
In honor of Gay Pride month and the LGBTQ+ community, West Hollywood will designate June 10th (Garland’s 103rd birthday) as its official “Judy Garland Day”.
The ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted by West Hollywood ‘s Mayor and Chamber of Commerce, acknowledges Garland’s legacy and the support this Iconic star of film, stage, radio, television and recordings had on the birth and evolution of the LGBTQ+ community.
Costumes, Memorabilia & Discussion
The celebration begins with a curated exhibition of Judy Garland’s original costumes, memorabilia and ephemera, personally loaned by historian and Walter Film’s own, Woolsey Ackerman, and sponsored by the Hollywood Heritage Museum.
Following the display, Woolsey joins a panel discussion that will feature intimate reflections on Garland’s impact. Scheduled speakers include Garland family members, Oscar-winning actress Margaret O’Brien, Meredith Ponedel, and Vince Spinnato. The panel will conclude with a Q&A session open to the public.
The Star Next Door
Garland appeals to all people. Most become aware of her when they first meet her as Dorothy in THE WIZARD OF OZ. She enjoyed one of the most prolific careers in show business, and though she suffered some of the difficulties of stardom, her talent, pathos, vulnerability and exuberant upbeat attitude was a constant source of inspiration.
Her films and show biz achievements are among the classics of Hollywood history and her memorabilia remains at the top of collectors wish lists.
At Walterfilm, we do our best to keep items from her career in stock, whether it’s scripts, posters, sketches or photography. Original still photographs from THE WIZARD OF OZ are always in demand.
From her earliest MGM portraits-

to her work with Mickey Rooney-

to her final film starring role in I Could Go On Singing-

and rare images from her 1963 CBS Television series-

and classic Hollywood portraits.
